Everything’s Better When Neighbors Work Together

“Because everything’s better when neighbors work together…”

Summer meets fall thanks to a collaboration with our friends and neighbors at Moon Hill Brewing Co.  Our post and beam Country Barn is transformed into the Brew Barn weekends June through October and for the Thanksgiving Harvest Festival in November, serving up our own Red Apple Farm hard cider, local brews, fresh roasted nuts, and popped-on-the-spot popcorn along with your farm favorites.  A day at the Brew Barn often includes live music, outdoor picnic tables where you can have food from our BBQ delivered straight to you, old fashioned family fun, and a patio overlooking the orchard.

The Story of the Brew Barn:

At the Brew Barn, we invite you to rediscover the simple pleasures: a refreshing cider; time with friends and family; or watching the sun set.

But the story doesn’t end there!

On Sunday, June 30th, 2019, a hail storm rolled over our orchard and damaged over half of our apples.  This could have devastated us, but instead, we decided to seize the opportunity to fulfill a longtime goal of ours: to start producing our own hard cider.  Thanks to a large crop of perfectly imperfect apples, and our ongoing collaboration with Moon Hill Brewing Company, we debuted our “Hailstorm Hard Cider” on October 11, 2019.

Our Hard Cider:

It’s a semi-sweet, unfiltered hard cider “born of stormy elements.”  Today, we sell our hard cider in growlers and kegs.  The moon and apple logo on our growlers represents the philosophy and motto we believe makes our cider that much sweeter:

The bright yellow moon of Moon Hill Brewing Company illuminates the silhouette of our 100-year-old McIntosh tree. This blending of the old and the new makes our cider unique.

It’s all good in the neighborhood.

We preserve the best of the old methods we’ve learned over 100 years on the farm – using our antique apple varieties and pressing our own unfiltered cider base in-house – while embracing newer microbrew techniques we’ve learned through our partnership with Moon Hill, founded in 2006. The result is a truly unique, complex cider that benefits from both perspectives.

Relieves itchy rashes from poison ivy, sumac, and oak. Ah! That’s a relief!

“Leaves of three, let them be!” Yet, if you love the outdoors, chances are you’ll run into either poison ivy, sumac or oak. Depending on your degree of susceptibility, the reactions can be severe, widespread and hard to treat without strong medications that are too harsh for children’s skin, and not so great for adults. That’s what led us to create SallyeAnder Poison Ivy Soap. It’s handmade, and besides our signature olive oil blend, it is filled with organic oatmeal, pink clay, and essential oils of balsam and Amyris. It’s rich in glycerin so it won’t dry out your hands, body or clothes. If you have skin or clothes that have touched poison ivy, sumac or oak, the first step is to wash exposed skin carefully to remove the toxic oils – the same type of oil, called urushiol, is found in a family of plants that includes poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. Because it is oily, it’s very important that the soap you use is able to remove the oil. Our Poison Ivy soap can be used in your bath or shower and can be a pre-treatment for your clothes. It provides itch relief and is safe for the face, body and children’s delicate skin. Safeguard your family from poison ivy, oak or sumac. Keep a bar of SallyeAnder Poison Ivy Soap in your first aid kit. Free of artificial dyes, sulfates, parabens, and chemicals. Safe for all skin types.
